What self-heating means
It Heats the Water,
So You Don't Need a Kettle
Most portable espresso makers need water that is already hot. A self-heating model has a heater and a battery inside, so you can pour in water straight from your bottle and still get a hot shot.

Questions
Self-heating espresso, explained.
What is a self-heating portable espresso maker?
A battery-powered espresso maker with a built-in heater. You add cold water and it heats the water before it brews, so you don't need a kettle or an outlet.
Do I need hot water?
No. With cold water, hold the button for 2 seconds and Origin heats it to 92°C (198°F) before brewing. With hot water, double-press and it brews straight away.
How do I charge it?
Over USB-C from a wall adapter, a laptop, a power bank or a car charger. The battery is 7,800 mAh (28.08 Wh).
Which capsules does it take?
Nespresso® Original Line compatible capsules and Dolce Gusto® compatible capsules, each with its own adapter. Nespresso® Vertuo capsules do not fit. You can also use your own ground coffee.
How strong is the pump?
The pump peaks at 19 bar and holds 9–12 bar while the shot pours, enough for a real espresso with crema.
Can I take it on a plane?
It has a lithium battery, so pack it in your carry-on, not in checked luggage. Empty the water tank first and check your airline's rules.
